Dear Distinguished Guests, Delegates, Partners, and Friends,
It is with great honor and heartfelt pleasure that I welcome you to the 13th Triennial African Potato Association (APA) Conference, from 25th to 30th May 2025, at the serene and iconic Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala, Uganda.
On behalf of the African Potato Association (APA) and the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), I extend our warmest greetings to all participants—scientists, policymakers, development partners, private sector stakeholders, and young innovators joining us from across Africa and around the globe.
This year’s theme, “Fostering Climate-Smart Cropping Systems for Sustainable Potato and Sweet potato Value Chains,” reflects the pressing need to reimagine our agricultural systems in the face of climate change, food insecurity, and economic inequality. Potato and sweet potato, once considered subsistence crops are now emerging as powerful drivers of transformation in food systems, nutrition, incomes, and resilience.
This week, we will engage in high-level discussions, cutting-edge scientific discussions, technology showcases, and exhibitions that will challenge us to think critically, act collectively, and innovate boldly. These conversations will be crucial in shaping inclusive and sustainable value chains that can meet the aspirations of millions of smallholder farmers and consumers.
I am proud that Uganda is hosting this important event, which demonstrates our strong commitment to agricultural research and development and highlights our leadership in advancing root and tuber crop innovations on the continent.
I invite you to take full advantage of the knowledge-sharing opportunities, networking sessions, and cultural experiences that this conference has to offer. May your time at Speke Resort Munyonyo be not only productive but also inspiring, as we cultivate ideas that will bear fruit across Africa and beyond.
To our organizing committees, sponsors, exhibitors, and every individual who has worked tirelessly to bring this event to life—thank you for your unwavering dedication.
Let this gathering serve as a catalyst for bold action, renewed partnerships, and a shared vision where climate-smart innovations and value chain inclusivity become the cornerstones of a better agricultural future for Africa.
I wish you all a successful, impactful, and memorable 13th APA Conference.
Warm regards,
